Resources Used to Summarize Information
Have you ever sat in a meeting at
work, a lecture at school, or watched a political speech on TV where the
speaker was going on and on? You tried your best to stay awake, and wished that
the speaker would just get to the point. This scenario illustrates the
necessity of utilizing effective summary techniques. In order to be a
successful communicator you need to be credible, and in order to be credible, your
audience has to stay with you long enough to get to the point. Thus, the
ability to summarize is so important.
There are numerous resources
available from which to gather information within the field of criminal
justice. Books, experiments, case studies, case files, police and investigative
reports, published studies, academic and professional books are typically-used
summarization resources at your disposal in the criminal justice field.
Consulting these summarization resources may enable you to gain knowledge about
a particular topic in short order.
Reflect on which sources you think
might be most important. Select two types of summarization resources (e.g.,
case studies, police reports, case files, articles) that might be applicable to
your position in criminal justice.
