                                      CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE
In 1974, the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency prevention act was enacted. The purpose of this act is to support local, states and jail programs that helps deter juveniles that are involve in criminal or delinquent activity. It focuses on public safety and promotes program that are effective in helping juveniles. The JJDPA has four requirements; these are denationalization of status offender. This states that offenses committed by a juvenile under the law is not the same for adults. The act improves the confinement issues making sure things are done for the housing of a child. Such as screening for the juvenile such as mental issues and substance abuse. And rehabilitation programs set in place for the juvenile. This act secures the safety of the juvenile making sure they are protected from harm. I believe the law is doing a good job in protecting these children but like any law needs to be revamped. To keep juvenile from reentering jail it is important to believe that the child can be rehabilitated.
