Answer these carefully and thoughtfully once you have thoroughly read the case and
pondered it. Make an emphasis on trying to articulate what was said in the case (you do not
have to quote it word for word but you do need to demonstrate you know the facts of the
case). I would also like it you could apply other relevant information you have learned
(maybe a newspaper article or report, etc.) to your analysis. There is no word requirement.
Just be thorough. Proofread what you write before you submit it, please.
Q1—Describe the 2 separate disasters that Malaysia Air suffered (the missing plane over the
Pacific and the plane shot down over Ukraine). I would suggest you read news accounts in
addition to what is shown in the case. When you describe these 2 incidents, tell me a) if
Malaysia Air should have had some ideas each of these incidents could have happened and b)
what should they have done to be more prepared. Discuss if you feel Malaysia Air was merely
an innocent victim of these two “accidents” or if you hold them accountable and responsible.

Q2—The case describes how many potential customers may be reluctant to fly Malaysia Air
now because they seem to have lost trust in the airline. Using the information in the case,
identify and describe at least two reasons the traveling public has lost trust with the airline.
Try to identify at least 2 important things the airline must do to restore trust; what would the
airline have to change before you would fly them again? Note—you may want to search for
other companies that have turned themselves around after a crisis and describe what they
did.
Q3—The case discusses how Malaysia Airlines could have chosen not to fly over Ukraine but
that would have meant they would have to pay more money for fuel because they were
traveling a longer distance. If you were in a position to advise the company on what to do,
how would you balance the need for reducing fuel costs vs. the chance that the airline might
be traveling through harm’s way? Also, how would try to recover the huge fees the airline is
paying out to compensate the victims of these 2 tragedies; what would you change in the
marketing or management of the airline?
