This is an Instruction Project and it could be on anything, but not something can be Googled. It should have a minimum of six-seven steps, with images/graphic and clear instruction (reader-centered Instructions) etc. More information is found on the assignment instructions and please don’t forget to send me the topic before start writing and putting the images in order because the topic needs to be pre-approved by my instructors.

Instructions in a Profession or Discipline: You will create a set of instructions that

helps a specific user or group of users accomplish a task or process in your profession
or discipline
incorporates graphic/visual elements as needed to assist the user(s)
offers the user(s) options for finding his or her way through the instructions; that is,
offers the option for non-linear navigation
The third of these criteria may be met in a number of ways. One would be to actually create
non-linear documents (webpages, etc.) if you already have those skills. Another would be to
write in a more traditional way (word processing) but to provide structures and navigational
tips along the way that allow users to skip steps, retrace their paths, enter in alternative ways,
etc. You will want to spend some time looking at examples of instructions so that you can
begin thinking about forms that will work well for you.
First, you’ll need to identify a task or process in a profession (job) or discipline for which you
will create instructions—a specific workplace task or process, not something that can be
Googled. The next step will be to identify a target user for your instructions. Given that these
are connected to a profession or discipline, in many cases the target user will be clear.
Your selected topic must be a task or process that has a defined beginning, middle and end,
and a clear desired outcome. It should be a process that can be completed in a reasonable
length of time, but should have more than just three or four steps. You’ll submit a proposal
for the topic and audience, which must be approved in order for you to move forward with the
project.
In terms of design, consider both copy and graphic features.
Copy features are changes you make to text that you’ve already written—like bolding,
numbering/bulleting, italicizing, adding white space, changing page orientation from
portrait to landscape, etc.
Graphic features are features you add to your text to increase your reader’s ability to
comprehend the document—like photos, diagrams, charts or graphs, illustrations,
maps, etc. Some of these may be found online, but this assignment asks you to
create at least one on your own.
Writing is not just about text; text is a powerful means of communication and persuasion, but
it is not the only one, and frequently—especially with this kind of task—it is not necessarily the
most effective one, at least on its own. It is likely that your instructions will include images,
illustrations, even video to supplement or replace text. These features, of course, won’t be
used just because they’re cool or kind of fun to play with but because you determine that
they provide the most effective, reader-based mode for conveying information.
