Introduction
Information communication and technologies(ICT) can improve the quality of
teaching, learning and management in schools and so help raise standards
(Livingston 2011). In this report, we will introduce the overview of technologies for
learning and teaching which addressed to the issues of University of Thistleton. This
section will particular identify and explain which technologies can enhance the
quality of education. Also, a trend analysis within next 12 months would be presented
in the report. Lastly, we will discuss ICT professionalism issues, such as ethics,
privacy, and security, relate to our recommendations and the characteristics of the
given case example.
In order to give proper technology solutions to the case given, we have firstly
identified main problems as following:
● Students are facing difficulties to gain unit knowledge being delivered by the
school, and teachers lack proper methods to evaluate students’ learning
performance.
● Students in four geographic locations need an effective online platform to
express their learning experience and discuss thoughts with peers as well as
teachers, and this should be real-time. Currently, they do not have online
platform.

As the limited time that students have to gain a vast amount of Bioscience
knowledge in a compressed time frame. Learning efficiency and no being
boring are needed to be seriously considered by the educators.
● Discipline vocabularies like a foreign language for those students.
So, how to foster deep learning?

1. Technology Recommendation
To enhance teaching and learning in the case given, technologies we recommend are
mainly focus on learning effective and teaching evaluation. As we know from the
case, on the one hand, Nursing and Paramedicine students struggle with a large mix
of knowledge and are required to learn certain amount of knowledge in a relatively
short period (6 semesters over 2 years, compared with 3 years for traditional
degrees). While on the other hand, educators are facing challenges to evaluate
students’ learning. That is to say, traditional teaching ways are no longer capable of
satisfying nowadays educational needs. ICT and teaching innovation are becoming a
significant key to today’s higher education. Blended learning is commonplace to
students. Also, teaching activities become project-based, inquiry-based, and
challenge-based that better to examine learning and offer high standard teaching.
Here in this report, we would like to present reasonable technology recommendation
to solve those problems as following.
1.1 Augmented and virtual realities
We can see an explanation of both AR and VR from mashable.com,” Augmented
reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment
whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound,
video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated
reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than
augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s
current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a
simulated one.”

1.1.1 Increase understanding and arouse motivation
The Augmentarium (AR/VR) is a revolutionary that enables a deep understanding in
surgery and medical training. With AR/VR, students are also less likely to struggling
with bioscience vocabulary.

The picture above was taken by Boise State University’s School of Nursing Boise
State University. With this innovative training method, the school has saved a big
amount of funds on equipment, students have more chances accessing to training.
The real-time simulation and virtual worlds allow school to educate students in the
safe and error-free operation environment.
As for learning motivation, no one can deny to experience this cutting-edge
technology. Students enjoy “playing games” when they interact with AR/VR devices
such as Oculus Rift, they like learning with the system, they treat it as a game
although there will be many practical challenges for them to solve. In addition, the
virtual reality technology can track, record and log mannequin’s skeletal data to
evaluate students’ performance, if he or she is using the correct technique for
example. After training, system and educators would ensure students have deep
understanding of certain knowledge being used in the lab.

1.2 Blended learning
Blended learning is a formal education that students take advantages of both face-toface and online learning. This hybrid teaching methodology offers students’ learning
with flexibility and personalization.
1.2.1 Online learning and project-based, challenge-based
evaluation
Online learning, also known as e-learning, enables learners to study in self-paced.
More importantly, blended learning environment uses technology to ensure students
in the learning process. Currently the University of Thistleton does not gear learning
technology in place, students and teachers are working in traditional classes which
limits their interaction.
The e-learning environment based on web and mobile app provide online resources
that helps students to reach academic goals. As an alternative of traditional form,
students can gain knowledge anywhere and anytime. Unit content being delivered
would be diverse, such as e-books, websites, videos, online quizzes, games, online
feedback system and learning forum etc., which enriches students experience. By
combining technologies that support teaching in different ways, teachers could be
able to deliver unit content more interestingly and consequently provide positive
learning experience, and achieve project-based, challenge-based evaluation by using
reasonable means of technologies.
Fundamentals of Bioscience has an annual enrolment of approximately 700 students
and is delivered across four geographic locations. E-learning helps teachers work
more efficiently and easily that they do not need to travel to four locations often.
Moreover, as students could submit their assignments to the school online system,
educators would be free from checking copyright and plagiarism manually. Tracking
and feedback system help teachers assess and improve teaching performance.

1.3 Bring your own device (BYOD)
Students in accelerated Nursing and Paramedicine degrees who facing challenges in
gaining large mix of Bioscience knowledge could take advantages of BYOD. As a
result, they are more likely to conquer pressure but enjoy discovering interesting
knowledge.
As many different individuals keep up with technology changes every year, more and
more students would want to bring their own devices to access school Wi-Fi and
online system. The flipped classroom is commonplace today, a study by Johnson et
al. (2016, p.38), technologies that facilitate personalized learning are “capable of
learning how people learn …they can adapt to each student in real time.” More
personalised, learner centred learning bridge the gap of formal learning in school
and the informal forms outside of classrooms. It leads to better motivation and
engagement for students.
1.4 Overview of Information technology infrastructure
1.4.1 Online Library
The online library should be built firstly due to it is the core of the solution of all
these problems. Online library as the information resources has highly correlation

with quality of educational content. As we all know, the knowledge of bioscience is
very complex and difficult to learner, and generally Accelerated Nursing and
Paramedicine degrees have longer time frame than other degrees. Thus, collect high
quality information of the knowledge including textbook, reports, videos, PPT slides
can not only help teaching staff set good unit structure and content, but also assist
students to access useful information to increase their study strategies.
1.4.2 Electronic Laboratory, Computer Lab and free WIFI
Electronic laboratory, computer lab and free WIFI is the hardware requirement of
building the university’s ICT framework. First of all, experiment is the core learning
part of Bioscience. Thus, electronic laboratory is necessary to build. Student can use
laboratory not only to research body structure, observe microbes, set up environment,
but also to analysis normal and abnormal anatomy. Furthermore, computer lab can
provide an opportunity to students to access internet. It also provides a learning
environment to students. Moreover, free WIFI can make all of the students and
teaching staffs access information from internet anytime within university locations.
1.4.3 Learning Management Systems
Learning management systems is the last step to finish the whole university ICT
framework. Learning management systems aims to not only collect the data from
students, but also provide processed learning content and materials. The data
collected from students is very important because the university can use the data to
do the analysis and the future plan. For instance, MYLO is one of the successful
learning management system designed and used by University of Tasmania.

2. A set of recommendations for the next 12
months
The modern medical education to make the development of information technology
to multimedia network Internet-based multimedia development momentum in the
world. The United States has been attached great importance to developing the
education of information technology application, to encourage teachers Use of
information technology in education innovation.
Not only is to make school teachers and the students can master the skills of
application of the Internet, which is more important to explore a new education
system and teaching mode, so that students in such system and mode, to cultivate a
strong information ability, to adapt to the fierce international competition, while
education based on Internet network for cultivating the information ability to create
the most favourable conditions.
2.1 Multimedia is suitable for medical education based on Internet
Medical education has been dealing with a lot of knowledge, and applied to the face
Bed as the ultimate goal, the teaching content is the use of multimedia technology,
training students o judge, a lot of information analysis and processing, using network
technology, modern theory, so as to cultivate students’ information literacy and
clinical thinking. In fact, modern hospital routine medical treatment, tend to be
networked, all kinds of inspection of the patient check, such as imaging examination
results, the current all kinds of physiological indexes and so on, the doctor through
Domain network, accurate and fast and convenient to get, and can realize network
consultation, through the Internet and remote medical treatment, remote education
can be realized. Therefore, the whole information technology suitable for medical
education is to cultivate the requirements of modern doctors.
Internet-based multimedia in computer as the centre, set the input media
(the recording microphone, camera, digital camera, scanner, etc.) and output media
(speakers, headphones, screen, printer, etc.) for the integration of hardware system,
and to the Internet.

The development of modern information technology to medical education to the new
teaching mode and teaching education concept with the development of information
technology, medical education has also been trying to, such as influential in the 1920
s, audio-visual teaching, it should be said has certain effect on sensory stimulation,
but the teachers often cannot become the organizers of the classroom teaching,
guidance, students will still be a passive recipient and the object of knowledge. Other
early computer aided teaching is mainly used to imitate machine program, little
impact on medical education.
Internet network environment, medical education is a kind of brand-new teaching
mode, can maximize learners’ initiative and enthusiasm. In this kind of teaching
mode, can provide learners with graphic video and texts, rich and colourful
