Forum Discussion: No matter how hard we try, we will never remove stress from the workplace. Why? Because we are all human and we are all different. Diversity has valuable benefits for organizations; likewise, diversity can present pronounced challenges. Discrimination and stereotyping are among the possibilities. By way of example, generational diversity has been one of the most interesting challenges because each generation brings a unique set of gifts and characteristics to the workplace. The key is to encourage each generation to allow those talents and gifts to complement the other generations.
Clearly, change is a factor influencing stress in the workplace. If change is embraced, communicated, and integrated strategically, change can create healthy stress. Otherwise, change can become a distressing event. Since stress will most likely be a part of organizational life, formal techniques for stress management control are vital for both individual and organizational life.
Based on your readings this week (see Lessons – Week 7 – Reading and Resources), how can organizations address change management in the workplace such that healthy stress is created? Be creative in your answer!
