This means it also needs to do more than agree with or praise a class mate. If you agree with a classmate, explain why, give an example, share what you learned in the readings, ask questions of each other, etc.in the past healthcare was focused more on treating the disease. Today, health care reform is focused on preventing disease. There are many advantages for people in focusing on prevention and choosing to live healthier lifestyles. “Changing the focus to prevention may reduce risk factors that can lead to chronic disease, slow their progression, improve overall health and reduce health care spending” (First & Rivlin, 2015).Nurses have always been an important part of health care changes. Looking back through the history you will see that nurses have always been involved in health promotion and disease prevention. Today nurses are still taking the lead in improving the health care industry. The nurses’ role is to educate the population about ways to prevent illness and disease, and improve overall wellness (Benedictine University, 2016). Preventive health care informs populations, promotes healthy lifestyles and provides early treatment for illnesses. There are 3.6 million registered nurses in America involved in promoting health and creating communities that have everything that patients need to promote health, including access to high-quality care (Campaign for Action, 2016). Nurses need to be able to practice to the full extent of their education and training, so nurses will have greater roles in primary care and also have telehealth so nurses can follow patients in hard to reach places. Nurses need to have good collaboration with other advocates in health, business, education, city planning, and to help to promote well-being for the entire community (Campaign for Action, 2016). Nurses will work with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and others in health care to coordinate their efforts to try to impact the community and encourage all industries to do the same. This may provide a lot more options to the community so they may be able to live a healthier lifestyle. Nurses serving in more leadership positions will help a lot, they understand the value with distinctive perspectives. These nursing leaders will need to be in more than political and business organizations. Nurses need to see the value in building their knowledge and they should be encouraged to do so by their employer and supported in their pursuit of higher education. The grand result of higher education will be a stronger nursing workforce that can contribute even more to keeping American healthier (Campaign for Action, 2016).
