In this final week of HRM591, we need to review where we’ve been and remember the three critical things that differentiate this course from traditional HR courses. Moving from HR’s traditions as administrative stewards to strategic partners demands that HR gets serious about total knowledge of the operation but equally mandates line managers taking equal ownership responsibilities for staff effectiveness. In a 21st-century globalized economy, staff can no longer be seen as an unlimited pool of workers that are interchangeable. The old mantra that people are our most important asset needs to be truly embraced (and quantified), and leaders’ learning needs to reflect how to prepare for that reality.
